The UT Health San Antonio School of Dentistry invites qualified applicants to apply for a full-time position for Assistant, Associate or Professor/Clinical, a the Director of the Phil and Karen Hunke Special Care Clinic, dedicated to improving the oral health of individuals with special health care needs. The position is primarily dedicated to direct patient care, supported by administrative duties that advance clinical and educational operations. Academic rank and salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
The selected candidate will be responsible for leading the planning, implementation, growth and sustainability of our dedicated Special Care Dental Clinic. It is expected that the Clinic Director will provide leadership in building a clinical program that facilitates access to dental care for individuals across the special needs community by leveraging institutional strengths and collaborations with community partners, while providing opportunities to educate dental trainees including dental students, residents and hygienists. The clinic will be a dedicated clinical dental home for children and adults that require the following treatment adaptations:
Modification of care due to physical disability
Modification of care due to cognitive disability
Modification of care via behavioral management
Modification of care to improve physical safety for treatment delivery
Facilitate/ provide oral or conscious sedation when necessary
Facilitation of a pathway to care for individuals needing care under GA in an outpatient setting when necessary
Qualified applicants will be expected to provide direct dental care and supervise learners in the delivery of care to individuals with special needs. Additionally, competitive applicants will have background in the development of didactic curricular content to prepare students and residents for delivery of clinical special needs care. Good communication and leadership skills are required, as this individual will work in an ongoing manner to closely build and maintain school, university and community collaborations. Specific duties will include, clinical oversight of patient care, direct provision of patient care, and participation in didactic and clinical education of students.

Requirements
Applicants must have a D.D.S., D.M.D. or a foreign equivalent from an accredited dental school, have or be eligible for a Texas Dental license. Candidates should have advanced training and clinical experience in areas of special care dentistry which can include pediatric, adult, geriatric and/or hospital dentistry. Also have training and experience in conscious sedation with a sedation license strongly preferred. Previous academic and administrative experience is preferred but not required.
