Job Summary:
With a commitment to excellence and a focus on safety, we are seeking a dedicated Plant Safety Manager/Engineer to join our team. This critical role will be responsible for implementing and overseeing safety protocols, ensuring compliance with industry standards, and fostering a culture of safety within our plant operations. The safety Manager works directly with the General Manager and within a cross-functional team to build, implement, and maintain a workplace culture of accountability. While at the same time striving to a commitment to the goal of zero injuries and incidents, world-class EHS performance, and regulatory compliance in a heavy manufacturing environment.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
- Design, implement, and manage comprehensive safety programs and policies that align with industry best practices and legal requirements.
- Conduct regular safety audits and risk assessments to identify potential hazards and implement corrective actions.
- Ensure the plant operates in compliance with all relevant local, state, and federal safety regulations and industry standards.
- Stay up to date with evolving safety regulations and proactively make necessary adjustments to company policies and procedures.
- Develop and conduct safety training programs for employees, including onboarding, ongoing training, Human factors, and emergency response drills.
- Promote a safety-conscious culture by fostering awareness and providing resources for continuous learning.
- Lead investigations into workplace accidents, near misses, and safety incidents, ensuring thorough documentation and reporting.
- Direct Implementation of corrective measures to prevent future incidents and track trends for continuous improvement.
- Develop and maintain emergency response plans, including evacuation procedures, first aid protocols, and coordination with external agencies.
- Conduct regular drills to ensure all employees are well-prepared for emergencies.
- Act as a liaison between management, employees, and external safety agencies, facilitating clear communication on safety-related matters.
- Promote safety awareness through regular communication channels, including meetings, posters, and training materials for supervision to present.
- Evaluate, select, and implement appropriate safety equipment, PPE, and systems to enhance workplace safety.
- Ensure that safety equipment is properly maintained through documented inspections, and employees are trained in their correct usage.
- Monitor and analyze safety metrics and key performance indicators to identify trends and areas for improvement.
- Prepare and present reports to management on safety performance and initiatives on a monthly basis.
- Directly reports to the Corporate Director of EH&S.
Education Requirements / Work Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental, Industrial Engineering, or related field.
- 5 years of experience in industrial safety management, with a proven track record of implementing effective safety programs.
- Practical working knowledge of Health and Safety tools and techniques, ideally within a facilities Management environment.
- Knowledge and understanding of relevant standards, legislation, codes of practice, guidance and operating procedures.
- Certifications, such as CSP, CIH, or relevant industry-specific certifications, are a plus.
- Strong knowledge of local, state, and federal safety regulations.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and engage employees at all levels.
- Proficient in using safety management software, Excel, and PowerPoint a must.
Physical Demands/Environmental Conditions:
Normal office conditions. Office located in a two-story office building. Job demands may require long periods of sitting, telephone work, and/or computer work, as well as interaction with other people. Normal office conditions include walking, standing, bending, kneeling, climbing stairs, lifting, driving, and/or traveling.
May occasionally visit shop to observe activities, post results, etc. Shop conditions are variable depending on task assignment. Is subject to shop noise, skin and eye are subject to fumes, vapors, and solutions controlled to OSHA standards.
